In 1943 November 02 Kegalu Balika Vidyala was started. Parama Vinyanartha Bhuddist Assosiasion mainly helped to start this First Girls' collage in Kegalle. Mrs. Anula Udalagama is the first principal of Kegalu Balika Vidyalaya. When it started as the GIRLS' UNIT OF KEGALU VIDYALAYA there were two teachers and seven student. As a result of the unmatched service done by Madam Anula Udalagama she got the name Shikamani in 1991. Mrs. Ayrini Muthunayake, Mrs. Seetha Amarakoon, Mrs. roopa Malawana, Mrs. Dayanthi Abewickrama ( Acting principle ), Mrs. Mallika Ranasinghe, Mrs. Darshanee Amarasinghe, Mrs.H.K.P.Wasala, Mrs. Senarath Indrani are the unforgettable LEADERS of the journey of LIGHTED TO LIGHTEN. Now our Madam Principal is Mrs. Chandima Thennakoon.

 As a student of Kegalu Balika Vidyalaya I'm proud to say about our Media Unit. That is because one can not live alone and the world has been given the right to express one's opinion freely. The contribution of Kegalu Balika Media Unit to achieve those goals in huge.  The activities and events coverd by our unit is uncountable. Members of our Media Club maintaining from SUSARA Media Unit is done a lot of works to light Kegalu Balika Vidyalaya. Every morning there is a Morning programme  powered by them. Useful speeches, songs, important sayings are broadcasting there. Not only from our mother toungue Sinhala, there we use the international language English to our Morning Programmes. Appart from them we are  broadcasting Sinhala & English news once  week.  Including those works we will hope to done so much works as Journalists of Kegalu Balika Vidyalaya.                            ...
